MOMENTS after a minor collision along Braddell Road, Mr Chua Cheng Hai was allegedly attacked by the other driver, who is said to have hit him so hard with a wooden pole that it fractured his wrist.

Mr Chua said the road rage attack happened in April last year after he cut into the path of Tan Eng Heong’s Toyota Wish.

On March 1, the 45-year-old technician testified on the first day of Tan’s trial that the 47-year-old IT manager then overtook his van and came to a sudden halt.

Mr Chua was able to swerve to the right but his Mercedes-Benz van sideswiped the driver’s side of the Toyota.

The technician then pulled up and that was when Tan allegedly walked towards him with a "wooden stick" taken from the back seat of the Toyota.

"I thought he was going to talk tough while holding the stick so I did not run," Mr Chua said. Instead, the technician told the court, Tan hit him with the stick several times while he tried to deflect the blows with his left arm.

IT manager Tan Eng Heong (above) allegedly hit Mr Chua Cheng Hai with a wooden pole after the van driven by Mr Chua had cut into his car’s path.

Mr Chua said the attack ended only when Tan’s teenage daughter, who was inside the car, screamed as the vehicle began moving forward because the handbrake was not fully engaged.

"I took the opportunity to get into my van to drive to the Ang Mo Kio police station to make a police report," he testified.

During questioning, Tan’s lawyer, Mr Vijay Rai, asked why Mr Chua’s initial police statement stated that he was hit only once.

Mr Chua said he missed out on certain details because he was in pain and was in a hurry to receive medical attention.

On March 1, Dr S. Ramesh, who operated on Mr Chua, testified that it was also possible for the fracture to have been sustained in a traffic accident instead of a pole strike.

He added that such an injury would not render the victim unable to drive. "That would depend on the pain threshold of the individual," the doctor said, adding that he did not believe driving after sustaining the injury would have aggravated it.

If convicted, Tan could be jailed for up to 10 years and caned, or fined.

The trial continues.

This cabby says he does not know how to drive, if he does not sit like an F1 driver, with his seat reclined all the way to the back.

This was what the cabby told STOMPer Boon, when the passenger asked him to move his seat slightly forward.

Said the STOMPer:

"I boarded his taxi yesterday (Premier Taxi) with my family.

"This driver had his seat pushed all the back with his leg almost straightened while driving.

"We kindly requested him to bring his seat forward a little to make us more comfortable.

"He said it was not his style of driving — if adjusted the seat, he would not know how to drive!"

driver reversed lorry into assistant and killed him thumbnail Driver reversed lorry into assistant and killed him

A MAN who caused the death of his attendant while reversing a lorry at a carpark driveway was fined $6,000 and banned from driving all vehicles for four years on Monday.

Neo Yong Beng, 24, then a lorry driver, admitted to causing the death of Mr Neo Hui Yong, 23, who was guiding him in reversing the vehicle behind Block 11 Dempsey Road on Aug 15 last year.

The court heard that the two men were collecting glass bottles from the food and beverage outlets off Dempsey Road when the accident occurred.

When Neo first started reversing, he could see the victim in the left view mirror of the lorry, but lost sight of him later and assumed that the victim was not directly behind the lorry. He stopped reversing when he heard someone shout at him.

The court heard that after Mr Neo was hit, he was also dragged for a distance of about one metre by its rear left tyre.

Neo could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for causing death by doing a negligent act.

Lorry exceeds height limit but driver still asks attendant: ‘Can I park here?’

lorry exceeds height limit but driver asks attendant thumbnail Lorry exceeds height limit but driver still asks attendant: ‘Can I park here?’

This lorry obviously exceeded the height limit at ION Orchard’s carpark, yet the driver could still ask the attendant if he was allowed to park there, says baffled STOMPer Adeline.

In an email to STOMP yesterday (Feb 25), the STOMPer says:

“We were surprised to see a lorry in the carpark of ION Orchard on level 5.

“When we were about to get out of our car, we overheard the conversation between the lorry driver and the carpark attendant.

“The driver was asking the attendant whether he was allowed to park there.

“That sounded ridiculous to us.

“He should have asked before he drove in.

“The lorry almost hit the signage on the ceiling! This made me wonder why the attendant allowed the lorry driver to drive in?

“Don’t they know the height limit of the carpark?”

‘So what?’ says driver parking in handicap lot, when confronted

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

so what says driver parking in handicap lot when confronted thumbnail So what? says driver parking in handicap lot, when confronted

This inconsiderate driver said ’so what?’ when he was confronted about parking in a handicap lot even though he was not a disabled person.

STOMPer Mike says such selfish offenders should be punished. He says:

"I saw this driver parking his car in a handicap lot at Kallang Cold Storage, even though there were other normal parking spaces nearby.

"The other lots were just slightly further away from the door.

"When it was pointed out to him that he was using a spot clearly reserved for a disabled person, his response was "so what?".

"He then went into Cold Storage to do his shopping.

"Handicap lots are there for a reason and it’s not for lazy shoppers to park near the door.

"When are we going to start getting tough on these selfish offenders?"
