People have too much free time to take part in childish flash mob events

people have too much free time to take part thumbnail People have too much free time to take part in childish flash mob events

STOMPer Woodlander came across a Facebook event set up to get participants for a freeze flash mob at Causeway Point and feels it’s a childish event.

The STOMPer feels that those who have agreed to participate have too much time on their hands.

Predicting that the event will be a flop, Woodlander says:

"I feel that the people who replied that they’re willing to participate in this freeze flash mob at Causeway Point have quite a lot of time on their hands.

"Some of them don’t even know what a freeze flash mob is and yet they still join.

"I think the organiser just wants publicity for the Facebook group.

"I’m quite sure that this childish event would turn out to be quite a flop."

STOMPer JoJo spotted what she called a smart bird, perched on the metal railings of the MRT train, hitching a free ride from Jurong East to Bukit Gombak.

Says this STOMPer:

"Have you ever take a train ride with a bird standing on the metal railings which was on top of you?

"Here is a smart bird who took a free ride to his desire destination. From Jurong East to Bukit Gombak."

How can? Family refuses to get off bus, gets free taxi ride instead

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

how can family hijacks bus and gets free taxi ride thumbnail How can? Family refuses to get off bus, gets free taxi ride instead

STOMPer iceblue was disgusted that the family who had caused a 5-hour standoff on board an SBS Transit bus was given a free ride home in a taxi. He feels they should have received a stiff penalty for their behaviour instead.

The family of four, comprising a Chinese national couple from Beijing, an elderly lady and her daughter (both Singaporean) as well as their maid were told by the bus captain to alight after they had brought a wheelchair on board the bus.

This was because the bus was not equipped with a padded wheelchair dock, which meant that transporting a wheelchair would have been unsafe for other commuters.

Here’s what the STOMPer wrote in an email today (Jan 19):

"I was surprised to read an article in Wanbao yesterday about this family, including two members from China, who ‘hijacked’ a public bus for about 5 hours in Singapore, and was given a free taxi ride home by SBS Transit.

"The family had wanted to board a bus near Mandai and was refused by the bus driver for bringing a wheelchair up on the bus due to safety concerns, as wheelchairs are a safety hazard and might injure others on the bus if there are no safety straps onboard.

"The family refused to alight and left other commuters stranded on the bus.

"The reason given by the PRC woman was that the bus did not have signs that forbid wheelchairs to be brought up.

"The bus captain had to call another bus in to transfer the other commuters to.

"I am amazed by SBS Transit’s response in providing a free taxi ride home for the family to end the fiasco.

"The situation seems to have been mishandled. It just suggests one should make a fool out of yourself to have your requests granted. It sets a bad precedent.

"Clearly, in this scenario, the family had not only created a public nuisance, but also wasted taxpayer’s money by activating the police and increase costs for the public transport operator.

"The police, should have taken action against the family instead.

"No wonder our public transport costs are increasing."

Cheap or creative? Bar gives free booze to busty women

Monday, January 18th, 2010

cheap or creative bar gives free booze thumbnail Cheap or creative? Bar gives free booze to busty women

Two STOMPers gave mixed views about how a local bar is offering free drinks to busty women — the bigger your chest, the more free drinks you get. While one STOMPer said the gimmick is degrading to women, another feels that it is all in the name of good fun.

The promotion, which was featured in The New Paper, was for an event at OverEasy at One Fullerton called Fill My Cups. The event got its name because the guest deejay for the event was Australian DJ DCUP.

According to the report, female guests with an A-cup bra size get one free drink, B-cups get two, C-cups get three and D-cups get the bottle of vodka for free.

STOMPer boobytrap says the stunt is distasteful and degrading to women.

She said:

"As a woman, I would feel ashamed to go there and reveal my cup size, just for a free drink.

"Why is it whenever somebody comes up with a sexy idea for a publicity stunt, it’s always women who become the bait?

"It makes us women look so cheap, revealing our private assets for the pleasure of lusty men, just to get free drinks."

STOMPer Cupenter, on the other hand, thinks that it was a very creative marketing idea.

He said:

"I think it’s really creative. We have to admit that sexy ads sell.

"And I think it’s all in the name of good, clean fun.

"We’re not in the Stone Age anymore, women should be proud of their bodies. If they’ve got it, why not flaunt it?

"But I do wonder why the promotion was for women only. They should have a size competition for men as well.

"Maybe free booze for bigger biceps?"

‘Free’ massage ended immediately when customer refused to sign up for promotion

free massage ended immediately thumbnail Free massage ended immediately when customer refused to sign up for promotion

Ten seconds into the ‘free’ massage, the masseuse suddenly stopped and asked STOMPer J J to sign up for a $48 on-the-spot massage. The STOMPer refused and with oil all over her shoulders, was immediately asked to leave.

That was the STOMPer’s experience with the Atos Wellness free massage promotion at the Metro Expo Sale held at the Singapore Expo, where complimentary massages were given to customers.

In an email to us on Jan 3, the angry STOMPer said:

"I understand that she has sales targets to meet but this is no way to treat a potential customer.

"This is especially so as I noted that other shoppers were still having their massages.

"I urge Metro not to continue collaborating with an organisation which does not treasure their customers as it might tarnish their image.

"I will never consider taking up Atos’ services again."

Atos has since contacted the STOMPer to ask for more details.
