STOMPer Angela is worried that the many kids who walk to and from school, may trip and fall because of these broken tiles along this pavement at Jurong East Street 13.

Says this STOMPer:

"This pavement at Jurong East Street 13 has broken and cracked tiles, which can cause people to trip and fall.

"This is a passage way that kids and adults frequent to walk to and from school.

"It is even worst on rainy days. When one steps on the tiles, water splashes out on to you."

Horrible English in storybooks for kids not helping S’pore’s standard of English

Monday, January 11th, 2010

horrible english in storybooks for kids not helping thumbnail Horrible English in storybooks for kids not helping Spores standard of English

This bilingual storybook is written in such horrible, error-filled English that STOMPer oojuzmeoo shudders at the thought of children reading it.

The storybook, which has a direct Chinese to English translation, could deteriorate children’s standard of English instead of improving it.

An appalled STOMPer oojuzmeoo says:

"I took these pictures at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre.

"There is a stall selling storybooks and stationery.

"This book costs $2 each and if you buy 5, you get 1 free.

"We flipped through the book and this is what we saw.

"The English is directly translated from the Chinese text. It is so horrible and filled with errors.

"I will never ever let my kids read this kind of books. If they speak to me like that, I will most probably faint."

Meet the terror kids of Bedok

Monday, December 28th, 2009

naughty kids play with rubbish at bedok void deck every night thumbnail Meet the terror kids of Bedok

These children run around at the void deck of Bedok North St 3 Block 529 at night and according to STOMPer controversial_123, they seem to be uncontrollable.

In an email sent to STOMP today (Dec 28), the STOMPer wrote:

“I saw these kids playing around the block while on my way to a friend’s house.

“The moment I reached the block, I saw these kids playing with the rubbish lying around the rubbish chute.

“Apparently someone throw their unwanted items over there, which was wrapped up in bags and plastics.

“These kids took the items out and began to play with them.

“You can see in one of the pictures that an uncle standing there, apparently quite displeased with what he had seen, and scolded the kids.

“I asked my friend and learnt that these kids are staying at level 2 and they’re really terrors by night, playing and running around the block every night.

“Come to Bedok North St 3, Block 529 every night and you may know what terrors they are. I’m shocked too.”

Don’t scold kids for playing at airport — it might inhibit their development

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

dont get annoyed with kids playing at airport thumbnail Dont scold kids for playing at airport it might inhibit their development

STOMPer Child Psychologist says as long as they do not make a nuisance of themselves, kids should be left alone to play in public places, like in the airport.

He says:

"The first two pictures were taken at the Changi Airport.

"The children were amazed at the open space that they left their parents and began playing at the metallic barriers.

"They ran through the barrier in a zigzag fashion and then began to do the pull up exercises.

"The next three photos show kids at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok who were enjoying themselves playing hide and seek with one another.

"So long as they play by themselves without making themselves a nuisance or disturbing the public, such fun time should be encouraged.

"Children need to grow up physically and their mental, emotional and social development is also important.

"It was Jean Piaget who first suggested that children think differently from adults.

"Relationships with peers and adults have an effect on how children think, learn and develop.

"The culture a child lives in contributes a set of values and customs that influence his development throughout his life."
