Such socially unacceptable behaviour should not be condoned, says STOMPer Z, who saw this commuter treating the train like his home.
The STOMPer says:
"This foreigner boarded the last train from Boon Lay and was treating it like his home.
"He had taken his shoes off, put his feet up and occupied three seats.
"He was yakking away so loudly and kept changing positions.
"Other commuters were looking at him, but he didn’t seem bothered."
STOMPer Pissed says that toilets in MRT stations are being used as meeting points for the gay community in Singapore. He says he had even heard them having sex in one of the cubicles.
The STOMPer recounts his own experience after reading STOMPer Chua’s posting on peeping toms who prey on other men in toilets at the Lavender and Ang Mo Kio stations.
According to STOMPer Pissed, he was using the urinal in the Clementi MRT station toilet at about 10pm one evening when he saw several adults in their 30s and 50s standing there, peeping at each other’s private parts.
When he used the cubicle the next time he used the same toilet, he overheard moanings and ‘dirty’ words being spoken by men in the next cubicle. From their accent, he believed that the men were China nationals.
As the STOMPer was washing his hands at the basin afterwards, he said a man smiled at him, presumably inviting him to engage in gay activities.
When the STOMPer reported the matter to staff at the control station, he got the impression that they were already aware of the gay activities because they were too quick in telling him that they were going to inform the police, without even asking for his particulars.
"I assume they just brushed me off with a ‘logical answer’ and took no further action," said the STOMPer.
The STOMPer did his own research on the Internet and found out from gay forums that MRT stations, shopping centres and men-only saunas are popular hangouts for the gay community here.
STOMPer MC saw this man secretly taking pictures of a girl dressed in a mini-skirt on an MRT train. The STOMPer told the girl about the incident when they met after getting off the train, and the girl was ’shocked’.
The man appeared to know that the STOMPer was glaring at him after the incident, and ‘pretended to read a book’.
In STOMPer MC’s account:
"I was chatting with a friend on the train on Saturday, Feb 27 at about 1.30pm at Tanjong Pagar.
There was a man leaning on the glass barrier on the left side of the door.
I spotted him raise his phone to chest level, phone held closely to his chest, and the red camera light came on.
"The train was relatively empty with few people standing, and the phone was aimed directly in front of him.
"I looked around, and there was no one in the cabin dressed provocatively.
"Leaning on the right glass barrier though, right opposite him, was a girl in a short skirt which was half lacy transparent.
"Yes, she was probably sort of asking for trouble dressed like that, but it doesn’t mean he had the right to take a picture.
"He looked around after his deed, trying to act normal and see if anyone saw him.
"I glared at him angrily and he kept staring back, unremorseful. Or probably really scared. The both of us got off at raffles to change train.
"He kept looking out for me while waiting for the next train. I happened to bump into the girl at the platform, and told her a guy took her picture.
"Well, she seemed shocked. Surprising, considering her outfit.
"Anyway, I got on the train with the guy, and later, we succeeded in taking some pictures of him.
"He looked guilty and pretended to read a book.
"I almost didn’t Stomp him, as I felt bad. It’s only a picture after all.
"But I changed my mind, thinking, if he took one picture, there must be many more before this, and probably even after this Stomp post.
"And who knows, he might even get bolder."
STOMPer K feel like he was watching a real-life movie when he saw this man sing and dance in the train.
The 28-year-old designer was travelling from Paya Lebar in the direction of Boon Lay and said that the man boarded the train at Outram station at 10:30pm yesterday (Feb 25).
“Everyone was watching him and laughing,” the STOMPer told STOMP.
“He started out by talking to himself and then he started singing aloud and making all these funny gestures and was dancing.
“It was crazy and entertaining. I really felt like I was being treated to a surreal movie where the action was taking place right in front of me.”
