Locksmith a big vandal: His stickers here, there and everywhere at Normanton Park

locksmith a big vandal thumbnail Locksmith a big vandal: His stickers here, there and everywhere at Normanton Park

This locksmith must be the biggest vandal in Normanton Park because he pasted his advertising stickers on nearly everything at one of the blocks in that area, says STOMPer Anthony.

In an email to STOMP today (Mar 10), the STOMPer says:

“This locksmith has outdone every other locksmith with his stickers pasted everywhere at Block 2 Normanton Park.

“He pasted his stickers all over the units’ electricity reading meters on every floor, residential lift lobby of each floor, inside the lift ceiling, fire hydrant water pipes at the residential lift lobby, residential water pipes, stairways and even a resident’s gate.

“Sometime he does not only paste one sticker, he pastes a few to cover up competitors’ numbers.

“It has made the place so unsightly and it is becoming a bad vandalism habit. It is also becoming a nuisance and inconveniencing residents as they have to peel off the stickers. Also, the lousy quality stickers do not come off completely.

“Can this be considered vandalism, just like how loan sharks write their ‘poems’ and splash paint on walls and doors?

“I hope authorities can comment on this sticker pasting. Can anything be done to this locksmith?”

Singapore – Resorts World Sentosa will open the gates of the Universal Studios Singapore theme park on 18 March at 8.28am.

Ticket sales for the soft opening phase will begin at 9 am on 10 March and before that, on March 13 the park’s first guests will be team members of Resorts World Sentosa, who will be the first to enjoy Universal Studios Singapore with their families.

As it’s still during the theme park’s preview phase, there will be limited tickets and certain attractions may be temporarily unavailable as Universal Studios Singapore continues its technical and creative adjustments.

A news release from Resorts World Sentosa said ticket prices will therefore be partially rebated by shopping and dining vouchers valid for use at Universal Studios Singapore.

Mr. Tom Williams, Chairman and CEO, Universal Parks & Resorts, said: “We are thrilled to be taking the next step toward a grand opening, and we are excited that, at Universal Studios Singapore, guests from throughout the region will get to experience the excitement and adventure our parks are so well known for around the world.”

Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Executive Chairman of Resorts World Sentosa, added “we are excited to be gearing up to take our first guests on the rides, which are naturally the highlight of the park. This is the region’s only Universal Studios theme park, and it will be a tourism crown jewel for not just Singapore, but Asia as a whole.’’

Tickets for the preview phase must be purchased online at www.rwsentosa.com, or via phone bookings at +65 6577 8899.

Tickets can also be purchased for future dates only at the ticket booths from 9 am to 6 pm daily at Universal Studios Singapore.

Lorry exceeds height limit but driver still asks attendant: ‘Can I park here?’

lorry exceeds height limit but driver asks attendant thumbnail Lorry exceeds height limit but driver still asks attendant: ‘Can I park here?’

This lorry obviously exceeded the height limit at ION Orchard’s carpark, yet the driver could still ask the attendant if he was allowed to park there, says baffled STOMPer Adeline.

In an email to STOMP yesterday (Feb 25), the STOMPer says:

“We were surprised to see a lorry in the carpark of ION Orchard on level 5.

“When we were about to get out of our car, we overheard the conversation between the lorry driver and the carpark attendant.

“The driver was asking the attendant whether he was allowed to park there.

“That sounded ridiculous to us.

“He should have asked before he drove in.

“The lorry almost hit the signage on the ceiling! This made me wonder why the attendant allowed the lorry driver to drive in?

“Don’t they know the height limit of the carpark?”

RWS theme park opens this CNY, but not the rides or attractions

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Visitors can stroll through the park for $10 during "sneak peek week", and enjoy its shopping and dining options.

RWS theme park opens this CNY, but not the rides or attractions

TOGETHER with its casino, Resorts World at Sentosa (RWS) will also throw open the doors of Universal Studios Singapore (USS) this Chinese New Year.

Theme park enthusiasts should hold their horses and sit tight though, and by that we don’t mean in a rollercoaster.

For Universal Studio Singapore’s “sneak peek week”- which runs from February 14 to 21 – people will be allowed to stroll through the park and enjoy the park’s dining and shopping, but no rides and attractions will actually be operational.

The park will open for a limited time each day during this period, from 5pm to 9pm, with a $10 ticket fee that will be rebated by a same-value dining voucher.

The public won’t be able to sample any of the park’s thrills and shows, but RWS remains "confident that the park’s design, vistas and photo opportunities will truly excite and impress guests and motivate them for return visits when fully operational,” said the Chief Executive Officer of RWS, Mr Tan Hee Teck.

Universal Studios Singapore is set for a Feb 22 opening, first to employees of RWS, Genting, and Universal, followed by limited audiences of staff families, charities and invited guests.

It expects to welcome its first public guests in early March.

Together with Thursday’s announcement of “sneak peek week” at the theme park, RWS also confirmed the soft launch of its casino for Sunday – which will welcome its first public guest at exactly 12.18pm, with a first play at an auspicious hour.

The casino’s launch is part of the initial phased opening of the Sentosa Integrated Resort (IR) that began on Jan 20 with the opening of four hotels. Its shopping and dining promenade, FestiveWalk, followed shortly with a soft-opening on Jan 30.

Sale of tickets for Universal Studios Singapore starts from 11.18am Friday, Feb 12.

Guests can visit the box office at the Universal Studios Singapore front gate to purchase tickets for another day (there is no same day ticket sales available).

No fixed dates for opening of theme park, casino at Resorts World

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

phpaC2i9q No fixed dates for opening of theme park, casino at Resorts World

SINGAPORE: The chairman of Resorts World Sentosa has refuted media reports which quoted him as saying on Tuesday that the Universal Studios theme park would be opened by the end of next week.

He also said authorities have yet to approve the casino licence.

Even so, Singapore’s first integrated resort saw thousands of visitors on Wednesday at the opening of its four hotels.

The ribbon was cut at precisely 8.18 in the morning. Eight is seen as an auspicious number because it sounds like the Chinese word for prosperity.

The four hotels at Resorts World Sentosa may have finally opened their doors to the public, but the resort said no opening date has yet been set for the Universal Studios theme park despite some media reports.

Lim Kok Thay, chairman, Genting & Resorts World Sentosa, said: "In terms of recalling what was said, I think perhaps there was a bit of a misunderstanding there. What I was trying to say was that after the opening of Crockfords Tower, the rest of the facilities would follow suit from next week onwards.

"Obviously, that would include the Festive Walk, the Universal Studios theme park as well as the casino component."

For now, the hotels were enough for visitors. Two of the hotels – Festive Hotel and the Hard Rock Hotel – have been operating since January 5 as part of a trial to iron out any kinks.

Andrew Hickey, vice president, Rooms, Resorts World Sentosa, said: "They’ve been very minor to be honest, it’s surprised us all. Buggy transfers, for example, because people in Singapore don’t like walking too much. So we need a few more buggies, perhaps to guide people around the resort.

"We’ve had some very interesting learning experiences. For example, the positioning of mineral water was one that comes to mind – where we put it – chill it in the minibar, or leave it outside in ambient temperature. That’s been a very interesting debate amongst the team."

With 10 restaurants and a list of brands that are well-known in the luxury retail market, Resorts World promises something for everyone.

The resort expects 13 million visitors a year when fully opened.
