road bullies hurl vulgarities and points middle finger at me thumbnail Road bullies hurl vulgarities, show me the finger, and get away with it

A STOMPer says these two men abruptly stopped in front of his car, then hurled vulgarities and pointed a middle finger at him when he tried to reason with them. What irks him more is that they got away with it after the matter was brought up to the magistrate’s office.

Said the STOMPer:

"These men jammed on the brakes on me just because I horned at them while I was driving home.

"I gestured them into my residence to talk it out for doing such a thing.

"These two fellows then stomped out of the car, throwing expletives at me and my girlfriend while I was still in my car.

"The photo was snapped when they were challenging us and one of the men pointed his middle finger at my girlfriend.

"Subsequently, the case was reported and brought up for magistrate complaint.

"The older man denied the offence and on the day of mediation, the magistrate claimed nothing can be done as this fellow has the right not to divulge the identity of the hooligan pointing the middle finger and there’s nothing that can be done.

"I question what is the jurisdiction in Singapore about?

"Is it encouraging people to bring matters into their own hands for such assholes?

"So with this, people can be doing this all day long and get off scot free?"

Wow! People actually get paid to sit and smile on Orchard Road

The economy must be on a good track again, says STOMPer zizou_83, who saw these models hired to smile and surf the internet on Orchard road in a SingTel campaign on Saturday.

If SingTel can afford to spend on such marketing techniques, it must mean that the economy is picking up again, he says.

The models were seen on Orchard Road, posing for pictures and surfing the internet while doing leisurely activities like shopping, singing and even sun-tanning.

Amused by the creative ideas in this campaign, STOMPer zizou_83 says in an email:

“I was in Orchard over the weekend when my girlfriend and I came across this display by SingTel.

“It had people surfing the internet on the streets.

“It was quite a curious sight because each of them was doing something different.

“There was even one girl tanning on the streets!

“Funnily enough we both laughed at how this must be a sign that the economy is finally recovering.

“I mean think about it, these people are getting paid to just sit there surf the internet and smile when people like me take their photos.

“Not only must it be the easiest job in the world, but I guess that means companies are spending again.

“I believe you can always tell a lot of how the economy is by the way companies are marketing their products. Just wish someone could tell me where I can apply for such a position!

“We both agreed though, it was something different and seemed to draw quite a few curious looks.

“It was a nice point of conversation on a somewhat uninteresting afternoon.”

Prepare to be star struck when you head down to Empress Road market…well, sort of. There’s a fish monger there who is a spitting image of the famous Hong Kong action movie star, Jackie Chan.

In an email to STOMP today (Feb 9), STOMPer OhEmmGee says:

“This famous fish monger has an uncanny resemblance to famous Hong Kong star Jackie Chan.”

According to an article on Soshiok.com:

Fish monger Zhang Sui Xing, 48, is a spitting image of the famous Hong Kong action movie star and has been mistaken for Jackie Chan by many who met him at the market in Empress Road.

Zhang, who has operated his fish stall there for over 20 years, has become a popular icon at the wet market, attracting many housewives – some even called "Aunty killer".

"My business is very good. Many customers will call me ‘Chen Long’ (Jackie’s Chinese name),” he told a local newspaper.
