mercedes cabby sends me rude sms because i cancel cab booking thumbnail Mercedes cab driver sends me rude SMS because I cancel booking

A STOMPer cancelled a cab booking, but was shocked to receive a rude SMS from the taxi driver himself.

The STOMPer said: "I cancelled a cab booking and the cab driver sent me rude SMSes."

The cab driver apparently accused the STOMPer of being selfish for cancelling the booking because he got another cab.

However, the STOMPer said he had called the taxi driver to ask him where he was because he could not see the cab, but the cabby did not pick up the call. The STOMPer said he had cancelled the booking not because he got another cab, but because he thought the booking made through his iPhone indicated the wrong waiting place.

When the STOMPer replied to cabby, saying that his company would not approve of the ride text messages, the cabby replied that he was self-employed and that his rental had got nothing to do with his text messages.

The STOMPer added: "What happened to the service in our public transport industry? This cabby drives a Mercedes Benz Cab SHA 518Z. Beware!"

Impatient girls can’t stop whining at ATM queue, and even pass rude remarks

impatient girls cant stop whining thumbnail Impatient girls cant stop whining at ATM queue, and even pass rude remarks

A STOMPer said these two girls kept whining when they had to wait their turn at this DBS ATM at Parkway Parade. They even passed rude remarks to people in front of them in the queue.

She said:

"These two young girls behaved very impatiently and even passed remarks while they were queuing up at this DBS ATM at Parkway Parade at about 3.30pm on January 9.

"The short-haired girl asked the man in front of her whether he was queuing to use the ATM on the left or the right side, and the man told her he was waiting for either side, therefore, it was a single-line queue.

"The short-haired girl then told her friend and the long-haired girl remarked, ‘It was never like that before, he just decided to call it a single-line queue’."

"They spoke very loudly, not like girls, maybe trying to draw attention.

"Then the girls made another remark when a lady was updating her passbook at the machine.

"One girl told the other girl ‘She has more than one book to print…I won’t give in, loh, she is taking too long, man!’"

"When the lady finished, she gave them a stunned look.

"If these people can’t wait, then don’t join the queue.

"Anyway, there is another POSB machine located on the 3rd floor, just outside ISETAN.

"Parkway Parade DBS branch is always very busy on Saturdays because most people run their errands then since they are not working.

"It is very rude and uncivilised of them."

Rude Cisco officer shouts at friend and issues parking fine

rude cisco officer shouts at friend and issues parking fine thumbnail Rude Cisco officer shouts at friend and issues parking fine

According to a STOMPer, his friend was assisting an NEA officer with fumigation work along Tagore Lane when he was escorted by Cisco officer.

He was fined even though he tried to explain to the officer why he was parked there and has gotten no response from Cisco even though he tried to appeal the fine.

In an email sent to STOMP today (Jan 9), the STOMPer wrote about the incident which occurred on Dec 8, 2009.

“My friend was on duty, assisting an NEA officer doing some fumigation work along Tagore Lane, industrial park.

“His vehicle was parked very close to the kerb along the stretch of road where he wasn’t obstructing any traffic along the stretch of road.

“Before the officer approached my friend, my friend witnessed the officer loudly and rudely told off another vehicle owner a distance away.

“After the officer done with his scoldings, he approached my friend and did the same thing.

“My friend explained to the officer that he was currently assisting the officer with the work at the factory next to the road.

“He then parked his motorcycle, took out a camera, a file and approached my friend.

“My friend then came out of the vehicle to stop him from taking photo of his vehicle. My friend tried to explain to the officer but he refused to listen.

“The officer stood very close and intimidated my friend not to touch him. My friend did not do anything until the officer starts to push him on his chest.

“My friend did not retaliate to his action. The officer still issued a parking ticket to my friend after the incident. He then took a photo of my friend’s vehicle license plate before leaving the place.

“My friend went to lodge a police report after the incident but the police post officer advised him to call Cisco as it was not their concern. My friend then called up Cisco calling centre to lodge a report.

“The officer told my friend that they will look into the matter.

“After 20days, my friend got a letter of summons from Cisco in regard to the fine. To date, Cisco did not get back to my friend with regards to the matter.

“Is this how our Certis works? Their job is to make sure people park at the designated area and not anywhere people deem fit. Shouldn’t the officers relay the message clearly than to do such a thing like that to members of the public?

“Do you think they should train their officer properly before sending them out on job?”

rude cinema staff chases us away after blackout thumbnail Rude staff chases us out of cinema after blackout without explanation

When STOMPer Polite wanted an explanation from a cinema staff on why they were told to leave the theatre after a power shutdown, they were chased out rudely.

The STOMPer said:

"When a certain cinema experienced a power shutdown, and the reason could not be found, customers who were told to wait, were chased out of cinema as the next batch of customers needed to be entertained.

"When explanation was asked for, we were told that we should not be making their life harder for them.

"A cinema attendant said ‘Do you want me to ask the minister to come down to apologise? Because he is the one who owns this place’.

"Is this how staff are trained to react?"

STOMP is getting more details from the STOMPer.

It’s rude to walk up to stage for pictures: School

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

20091112.122305 rude Its rude to walk up to stage for pictures: School

SORRY, parents. No photo-taking please. If you want any, pay $2 for a photo taken by our official photographer.

The policy has riled some parents, but the Marsiling branch of the PAP Community Foundation (PCF) kindergarten said it has its reasons: The policy is to prevent disruptions.

Mrs Nancy Tew, the Marsiling branch’s administrator, explained the policy, which she said has been in existence for 14 years: ‘Every year, we ask the parents to take pictures from their seats, but inevitably some parents will still get up and walk right up to the stage, blocking others.

‘It is embarrassing as some of them come right to the front, turn their backs to the VIPs and click away.

‘We even have to make announcements for them to return to their seats but some refuse to listen and this ruins the show for others.’

During one ceremony held at a community centre several years ago, she recalled that some irate parents yelled at the inconsiderate ones to sit down.

‘This is hardly what you want at a graduation ceremony,’ said Mrs Tew.

Before the graduation ceremony for K2 pupils on 30 Oct, the kindergarten had sent a reminder to parents of the 200 performing children.

The kindergarten also said it engaged a professional photographer and videographer for the concert.

Parents can buy a picture of their kids taken during their performance for $2, and a DVD of the graduation ceremony for $20.

The kindergarten said the parents are allowed to take pictures from where they are seated.

The ceremony took place at Republic Polytechnic’s (RP) Cultural Hall.

The request isn’t unique to this kindergarten. Some schools do ask parents to refrain from taking photos. Others put up signs to remind parents to remain seated during the ceremony.

But the no-photo policy has not gone down well with some parents at the kindergarten.

A housewife in her 40s who wanted to be known only as Ms Lim, said: ‘It is a once-in-a lifetime-event and we should be able to take pictures of our own children during their graduation.

‘They charge us for the costumes the children wear for the ceremony and even charge us if we want more than two tickets. Why are they charging us for everything?’

Each family was allotted two free tickets. Extra tickets cost $5.

Mrs Tew, however, felt that $2 for a picture taken by the professional photographer was reasonable.

Reasonable rates

‘Usually, such professional pictures cost $5,’ she said.

‘Parents who order it get four pictures within one big picture. This way, parents get to see their kids in four different actions.’

Mrs Tew said sales from the pictures and DVDs go towards offsetting the cost of the graduation ceremony.

Mrs Tew added: ‘It costs $500 to rent the hall at the community centre but it can seat only 500 people. The hall at RP can accommodate 1,200 people.’

The RP hall costs $6,000 to rent.

It’s not known how much the kindergarten paid to hire the photographer and videographer.

However, some parents appreciate the no-photo rule.

Mrs Joyce Lim, 35, a pharmacist, said: ‘My son played a major role in the concert and by not worrying about taking the pictures or the video, I could really enjoy his performance.

‘If parents were allowed to take pictures, it might have frightened the young kids and affected their performances.’

Mrs Lin Siew Lian, 45, administrator of the PCF Aljunied-Hougang Centre, said that her kindergarten does face disruptions during graduation concerts but has not put in place a similar no-picture rule.

‘We put up signs to remind parents to remain seated but there will still be interruptions that we have to deal with,’ she said.

Parents of older students better behaved

SOMETIMES, parents who attend graduation ceremonies involving older students are asked not to take pictures.

The reason: Camera flashes may disturb performing students.

But educators whom The New Paper spoke to said that parents of older students tend to be well-behaved.

A primary school teacher, who declined to be named, said that only parents of prize-winners are invited to prize-giving ceremonies at her school.

She said that at a recent drama that her lower primary students put up, parents were told to wait until the end of the performance to take pictures.

It worked, to a certain extent.

Said the teacher: ‘After the performance, however, we had a hard time managing parents who rushed to the dressing rooms for pictures.’

A secondary school teacher, who also declined to be named, said her school recently staged a drama. Before the show, the audience were told that flash photography was not allowed.

The 30-year-old said: ‘Still, some went ahead anyway. It is impossible to control them. But it wasn’t a big problem as they remained seated.’

At the university level, parents are generally well-behaved.

A Singapore Management University spokesman said in an e-mail: ‘For the school ceremonies, where the degree scrolls are handed out to individual graduands, guests are advised not to take photos at close range as it would affect the work of the official photographers.

‘So far, the guests have been cooperative. Students are given one free photo of them on stage receiving their scrolls. Guests are at liberty to take any other shots.’
