Mr Sanusi suffered serious injuries over about 40 per cent of his body.
Malaysia, January 21, 2010 – A SHOUT for an order of tea
brought more than a cuppa when a man was scalded over a large part of his body.
An agitated coffee shop worker in the Tanah Merah district of Kelantan poured boiling water on Mr Sanusi Othman, 31, a trader, when the latter raised his voice while making an order.
As a result, Mr Sanusi suffered serious injuries over about 40 per cent of his body.
He said he had taken his motorcycle out and rode it to the shop in the middle of town at about 10pm on Jan 4, reported Harian Metro.
He said: “I was alone and was wearing a T-shirt and a sarong.
“I sat down and made the order but the worker did not seem to hear it. So, I shouted the order again.
“I had a shock when he came from behind, carrying a can filled with boiling water.”
When met by New Straits Times at his house at Kampung Pondok Lama, he said: “It happened so fast that I only managed to block him from pouring it on my face.”
Mr Sanusi said he scuffled with the worker before he was taken home, writhing in pain, by a friend in a car.
He said: “I had to strip off the T-shirt and sarong I had on because it was simply too hot.
“By coincidence, a friend who was at a snooker centre nearby heard about the incident and appeared on the scene and sent me home.”
Despite the injuries, Mr Sanusi did not report the incident to the police or go for treatment at the hospital because his family did not want the case to be prolonged as the worker was a close relative.
He added: “His mother and uncle came to see my family and apologised for the incident.
“However, I lodged a police report two days ago on the advice of a cousin.”
Family shocked
Mr Sanusi’s father, Mr Othman Said, 70, said the family was shocked when he was sent home by a friend with one part of the body badly scalded.
“We believe that there is more to this than the shouting incident which led to the attack,” he said.
The suspect, who is also a car broker, had earlier tricked Mr Sanusi’s younger brother into buying a car.
Added Mr Othman: “He was angry with us for asking him to return the money.”
Chief of police in the district, Deputy Superintendent Abdul Aziz Mahmud, confirmed the incident.
A man in his 30s has been detained by the police.
